I have the honour to forward the

enclosed copy of a minute by the Director of Public Works,

dated the 10th, ultimo, and to state that upon receipt of

it I directed Mr. Chatham to charge Mr. H. A. Morris,

2nd. Class Overseer in the Public Works Department, with

absenting himself from duty without leave from Tuesday,

the 2nd. ultimo, to Monday, the 8th. ultimo. I enclose

copy of the ensuing correspondence, together with the

report of an enquiry held by a Committee of the Executive

Council on the 26th. ultimo. The report of this Committee

was considered by the Executive Council at a meeting held

on the 29th. ultimo, and the Council advised that Mr.

Morris should be severely reprimanded and should revert to

his minimum rate of salary with effect from the 29th.
